Poet's temporary residence
Heroes and heroines were the theme of the day when an award-winning young poet stopped by for National Poetry Day.
Portsmouth Grammar School welcomed Adam O'Riordan, 28, for workshops on the writing of verse.
Exploring the National Poetry Day theme of heroes and heroines, Mr O'Riordan got pupils to consider different points of view.
English teacher Emma Kirby said: 'Pupils brainstormed ideas and began creating poems on their hero or heroine which they shared with Adam, often trying to take an unusual angle, such as from the perspective of Rosalind in Romeo and Juliet or Harry Potter's magic cloak.'
Mr O'Riordan, who has studied under former poet laureate Andrew Motion, added: 'I was very impressed with the pupils and their level of knowledge of poetry, with their interest, enthusiasm and passion for poetry.
'I enjoyed the very happy working environment. All the pupils were wonderful. I couldn't have asked for anything more.'
