Police want to hear from anyone with information about the theft

AN appeal has been launched after a 10-year-old boy was grabbed by a stranger in Portchester.

The boy was riding an electric scooter in the King George Road and Sunningdale Road area when he was approached by an unknown man.

The man is believed to have taken hold of the boy who then rode off on his scooter.

The man, who was wearing a blue jacket left in the direction of Castle Grove.

Police have said it is not being treated as an attempted abduction but would like to speak to the person involved.

Detectives yesterday met and spoke with the boy and conducted house to house enquiries.

Detective sergeant Darren Thomas from Fareham CID said: ‘We’d like to emphasis that the boy acted entirely correctly by reporting this to a relative whom promptly contacted police. ‘However at this time, we are not linking this to any other cases.

‘It is also important to note that as nothing was said by either the boy or the man, the man’s exact intentions cannot be ascertained.

‘It’s understandable that this man’s behaviour frightened the boy. We’d appeal for the man involved to contact us in order to discuss what happened.

‘There could be a completely innocent explanation which would enable us to reassure the boy, his family and the community.

‘The local Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be conducting additional patrols of the area.’

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
