POLICE are to keep an open mind about a bid to reopen a troubled pub that closed after a drunken brawl.

Enterprise Inns has applied to get another alcohol licence for the Compass Rose, in Anchorage Park, Portsmouth, after it was taken away by the city council following the incident involving 40 people in the early hours of Sunday, April 6 this year.

Hampshire Constabulary had issues with the fact alcohol was being served past midnight, a breach of its previous licence, and concerns about the attitude of previous tenant Ian Campbell.

But the force says it would support a new manager coming in should the application be acceptable.

Eastern Area licensing inspector Peter Page said: ‘If a new individual or company wished to apply for a licence, we would review their application and support it if deemed suitable.’
