Pompey fans log on to keep up-to-date
Pompey fans flocked to The News website last night to get up-to-date news of their heroes in action.
Hundreds of dedicated Pompey supporters logged on to www.portsmouth.co.uk for the latest updates from Portugal.
The website was one of the only ways to follow the game after UK TV channels decided not to buy the live match rights to broadcast it.
News sports writer Jordan Cross kept readers abreast of all the action with regular updates from the Axa stadium in our Pompey Live service.
Hundreds of comments flooded in from those using the free service from around the globe.
Digital editor Matthew Brown said: 'We knew it was important that we provided our usual matchday service, as there was no television coverage of the game.
'But I was delighted with the number of people who logged on and joined in the banter on the site.
'We have provided matchday updates on the site for a long time, but during the Uefa Cup run we have been offering a different service which allows readers to comment on the game as it goes on.
'This brought readers interaction from far and wide, and from those who joined in we had a soldier serving in Iraq following the game along with ex-pats from the USA and Canada.'
The service will be again in use when AC Milan visit Fratton Park on November 27.
