A BUSINESSMAN says he is losing around £4,000 in trade a day after vandals stole copper from a phone line.
As previously reported, phone wires in North End were cut and police think thieves were trying to steal the copper.
It has left hundreds of homes and businesses without a connection.
Carl Cooper, 43, owns Hartley Windows, in Limberline Industrial Estate, Hilsea.
He estimates the phone problems are costing his business around £4,000 in lost orders, and is frustrated BT is not keeping people up to date.
He said: ‘I understand it’s not BT’s fault, but their support has been shocking.
‘I’m not asking them for compensation, but to help me connect to some services so I can run my business.
‘They have now redirected landline calls to my mobile and will pay for me to have a (wireless internet) dongle.’
The incident happened on Wednesday, March 21. Witnesses say they saw at least two men wearing high-visibility fluorescent jackets working on the drains in North End Avenue at around 10am.
