Portsmouth families charity is handed £1,000
A local charity has received a £1,000 donation from Southern Electric.
Home Start is a Portsmouth-based charity that recruits volunteers to help families and single mums at home.
The volunteers aid parents by helping to look after the children and offering support.
The money will go towards recruiting more volunteers, and running training classes.
Louise Boyle, manager of Home Start, said: 'Southern Electric had to nominate some local charities and they like what we do, so they gave us a share of the money that they had. We are really chuffed because it could help us to finance the evening training classes.
'We have training evenings three times a year but this year we will run evening classes. We have had a lot of working mums interested in volunteering but they can't train in the daytime because they are at work. The money will come in really handy.'
Home Start is looking for more volunteers to sign up and take part.
