Portsmouth motorist who hit police officer admits dangerous driving

A MAN who was disqualified from driving went on the run after he ran over a police officer.

Freddie Field mowed down PC Alison Zachs in Sedgeley Close in Southsea when she was on cycle patrol on May 24 last year.

Field was arrested in Portsmouth nearly four weeks later after he went on the run.

At Portsmouth Crown Court he admitted to actual bodily harm, driving while disqualified and dangerous driving.

PC Zachs received hospital treatment for her injuries which were not life-threatening, police said.

Field, of London Road, Portsmouth, was arrested at an address in Fratton Way, Portsmouth, 26 days after the incident took place on June 19.

Field also admitted a separate public order offence of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour at the Etap Hotel in Fratton Way, Portsmouth, on April 21 last year.

He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 5 April.
