STEADY progress is being made by a teenager recovering after a horrific collision.

James Adie is on the mend after being hit by a motorbike on the Eastern Road in Portsmouth on July 3.

James, a pupil at St Edmund’s Catholic School, was riding his bicycle when he was hit at the crossing just south of the Tangier Road junction.

Now his family has released a statement to The News.

They said: ‘James remains at Southampton General Hospital and is likely to do so until September.

‘He is making good progress having had an operation to repair a broken pelvis and femur.

‘He is receiving intensive therapies – hydro, physio and occupational – to enable him to walk and relearn everyday tasks.

‘We would like to thank all the staff at Southampton General for their specialist care, skill and expertise.

‘We are especially appreciative of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, which got James to the hospital at a time when speed was imperative.’

After the crash, the 15-year-old was desperately ill in Southampton and placed in an induced coma.

His family, from Southsea, have held a bedside vigil since the crash.

Later in July, James had recovered enough for doctors to take him out of the coma.

After having an operation, he is now getting better.

People of all ages across the city have been offering messages of support.

James was a paper boy for Cartwright News in Albert Road, Southsea, and many customers have been worried.

His school created a book for pupils to write messages of support.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Christians in Portsmouth prayed for the youngster.

James’ family worship at St Jude’s Church in Kent Road, Southsea, and different people promised to pray each hour every day and night.

The statement added: ‘The family are also really grateful to their friends and the wider community for the amazing support shown to them at this time.

The 45-year-old man riding the motorbike, also from Southsea, is understood to still be recovering in hospital after suffering serious injuries.
