PORTSMOUTH’S new park and ride has had more than 7,000 customers in its first seven days in action.

The week ended on a high with 1,419 customers making Friday the most popular day of the opening week.

Pam Turton, Portsmouth City Council’s assistant head of transport, said: ‘We’re delighted with the number of people using the service in the opening week and have had some great feedback from customers.

‘No doubt the good weather and school holidays have helped attract people to the city, but the figures bode well for the service going forward.’

The new park and ride offers commuters and visitors an alternative easy way into the city.

The introductory offer of £2 a day lasts until June 29.

The service runs every day, with stops for Portsmouth International Port; Charles Dickens birthplace; the city centre; and The Hard for the Historic Dockyard and Gunwharf Quays.

Priority parent and child and disabled parking spaces are available in addition to dedicated spaces with charging points for electric cars.
