Portsmouth turns out to support Race for Life
Pink was the colour of the day as thousands of women took over Southsea Common.
Many old Race for Life faces returned once again and happily welcomed those joining in for the first time for the day which continues to grow in popularity.
Smiles and laughter go hand in hand with the sad emotions people feel as they read the messages on women's backs and remember the names on their own backs.
The cheering crowd lined the 5km course around the common and along the seafront clapping the women all the way back to the start/finish line.
Due to its popularity the Portsmouth event has two races, one at 11am and one at 3pm.
The morning events sees the most entrants and it took 10 minutes for about 7,000 women to stream across the line and just 16mins 48 seconds for Karrie Blake to complete the 5km course.
It is the third year in a row she has crossed the finish line first in the morning event.
The 32-year-old of Copnor, Portsmouth, said: 'I run in a lot of races throughout the year but always try to get to this one because the atmosphere is so good. I also like to try and beat my time. I did it in 17mins 5secs last year so I'm pleased with this one.'
With about 1,600 in the afternoon event it did not take so long for everyone to get going with the fastest women finishing in 19 minutes.
Once all the sponsorship money is returned the day will have raised about 500,000 for Cancer Research UK.
