Poster exterminates the Earl's Court opposition
A tin robot hell-bent on world domination has won one aspiring young artist national acclaim.
Laura Pullen, 10, put pen to paper and sketched out her very own Dalek – the croaky-voiced and most feared enemy of Doctor Who.
Her picture, sketched in her bedroom, is now a huge 30ft by 20ft poster at London's Earls Court, the venue for a national Doctor Who exhibition, and has been seen by thousands of people.
Laura, of Cedar Gardens, Havant, never dreamed of winning the poster competition after spotting an advertisement while on a trip to the exhibition in August.
But there couldn't be a more worthy winner, as Laura's entire family is Dr Who-mad, with their very own collection of radio- controlled Daleks.
Laura, who attends Bosmere Junior School, said: 'I chose a Dalek because they are the scariest monster of all! It's amazing to see my drawing up on Earls Court – it is really, really big. When I found out I had won I ran around the garden screaming!'
Laura's mum Helen said her daughters had been brought up with the science-fiction show.
The 42-year-old said: 'My husband and I are Doctor Who fanatics and I think it has rubbed off on them.
'We have Daleks galore at home. We have radio-controlled ones of all different sizes around.
'When I was growing up the Dalek was the scariest monster on Doctor Who. There's something otherworldly about them.'
Angela Temperton, head of events at Earls Court, said: 'Laura's design was a clear winner as everyone knows the Daleks are synonymous with Doctor Who, plus her interpretation of the Doctor's evil nemesis was spot on – right down to the blue colour of the Dalek's eye stalk!'
The Pullens are hoping to get Laura's poster framed - although they are not sure if they could accommodate the one at Earls Court.
