Praise given to vicar for work in community

VICAR Alex Hughes

VICAR Alex Hughes

PORTSMOUTH‘s bishop has praised work being carried out by a vicar in the community.

The Right Reverend Christopher Foster said he was delighted with the progress being made at Charter Academy, the Church of England secondary school where the Rev Alex Hughes is chairman of governors.

Mr Hughes, vicar of St Peter’s Church in Somers Town and St Luke’s Church in Southsea, leads assemblies and supports students by improving their opportunities and teaching the Christian message.

Mr Foster said: ‘He is an exemplary parish priest who has my full support.

‘His work at Charter Academy is an excellent example of the kind of extra work that clergy and volunteers take on throughout our diocese.’

Mr Hughes said: ‘I’m grateful that the bishop has reiterated his support. I know both he and the diocese have been behind us throughout.’
