Pranksters under fire

The Royal Navy today condemned pranksters who posted a video of a cadet being pulled by a tug boat in the Solent.

A university officer cadet, dressed as comic creation Borat, is seen being pulled on a rubber ring by HMS Biter.

Shot at the end of a summer mission, the footage also shows the young sailor passing close to what appears to be a giant basking shark.

The film appeared on YouTube.

A Navy spokeswoman said: 'We have investigated this. The video was shot in summer 2007 at the end of the cadets' mission.

'The young man involved is no longer a member of the university cadets as he has finished as a student.

'It's not something we expect or condone from our officers or cadets, but we're at least pleased he was wearing a life jacket throughout.

'It's unlikely we'll be taking any disciplinary action over this, but we will remind commanding officers of their responsibilities.

'This type of behaviour is less than we expect from our officers.'
