Pride of a Pompey son - 69 years on
The son of one of Pompey's historic FA Cup Final goalscorers is going to Wembley after the club stepped in to make sure he did not miss out on Saturday's showpiece clash.
Andrew Anderson, 61, from Chichester, has lived in the area all his life.
His father, Jock Anderson, scored in Pompey's last cup final appearance back in 1939, which was a 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Wembley.
And now, 69 years on, Andrew is getting ready for his own trip to Wembley even though earlier this week he was fretting that he would miss out.
Andrew made a big effort to ensure that he would have a ticket to the final, and wrote to both the club and to Harry Redknapp.
He is now thrilled to be the beneficiary of the club's decision to give out final tickets to the remaining family members from the 1939 final.
He got the good news after going down to Fratton Park in person and showing club officials his dad's 1939 winners medal.
'It's brilliant,' he said. 'My father would be delighted that both myself and his grandson are going.
'Pompey have got the best supporters in the country and I will be capturing the atmosphere with the rest of them.'
He said of his father: 'He was one of the key players in the final.
'I am proud of what he and the team achieved at the time, especially as they were the underdogs.
And at Wembley stadium, he hopes his presence will be able to create a bit of luck for the boys in blue.
'I have got to be there to experience it,' he said.
Jock Anderson was born in Dundee in 1915 and played 90 first-team games for Pompey, scoring 42 goals. He also scored in the 1939 semi-final against Huddersfield.
