Principal seeks feedback on courses cull
A COLLEGE principal says he wants to hear from the public about plans to close down 'pleasure and leisure' adult evening courses.
Havant College says cancelling its 74 evening and weekend classes – such as belly dancing, guitar lessons and first-aid courses – will save it 80,000 next year.
College bosses say there have been falling numbers taking up paid-for courses in the past three years. In addition, government funding for adult evening courses was cut four years ago, leading to Havant College making a loss on these courses, which do not lead to a qualification.
The News reported that a public consultation was running until mid-July about the proposal but in fact the consultation is for staff only.
However, college principal John McDougall said the public was free to make their views known.
'We of course would welcome views from the public. I'm happy to receive letters or e-mails if people want to give their opinion.'
E-mails can be sent to enquiries@havant.ac.uk and letters can be sent to the main college address: Havant College, New Road, Havant, Hampshire, PO9 1QL.
