A WOMAN driver and her husband were showered in glass after a rock was tossed from a bridge over the A27 on to their convertible car.
Yobs hurled the rock from a bridge as the woman was driving west between Chichester and Emsworth.
The windscreen smashed, but the couple escaped injury.
The woman managed to safely stop the car in a nearby lay-by.
The incident occurred as she was driving under a bridge which has a sign on it, indicating four miles to Havant.
PC Andy Rawlinson, from Sussex police, said: ‘This was an extremely dangerous thing to have done and it is fortunate no-one was hurt or even killed.
‘The bridge carries a farm track over the A27 between Woodmancote Lane and South Lane in Southbourne.
‘It lies midway between the Stein Road and Broad Road bridges. Anybody who saw anyone loitering either on the bridge or in that area is asked to get in touch.’
The incident happened at about 6.20pm last Friday, although details have just been released by police. Witnesses are being sought.
Anyone with information should phone Sussex police on 101, quoting 1509 of 1/11.
