Pub evacuated as fryer catches light
FIRE crews rushed to a pub after a deep fat fryer over-heated and set light to the kitchen.
Staff and customers were evacuated as firefighters spent 20 minutes tackling the blaze.
The kitchen had to be shut after suffering massive damage.
Two fire engines from Gosport station were called to the blaze at the Kings Head pub in Brockhurst Road, Gosport, at 6pm yesterday.
Watch Manager Mark Larrimore said: 'Someone had left the deep fat fryer on and it over-heated and spilled oil everywhere which caught alight.
'It was in a developed stage when we got there and was put out with dry powder.
'We are not investigating the matter and it is being treated as an accident.
'The main reason we could contain it was the smoke alarm system in the pub which alerted staff very quickly, if it was left any longer it could have been a threat to the rest of the building.'
