Pupils given a taste for cooking

Under the watchful eye of a professional chef eager youngsters learned to make their very own pizzas.

As part of Gunwharf Quays' food festival the Education Business Partnership (EBP) organised for Portsmouth schools to visit restaurants.

Lucky year five pupils from St Swithun's School, in Southsea, got to take a look inside the kitchen of new Italian pizzeria, Fire & Stone, before getting their hands stuck into authentic pizza dough.

The children were taken round the kitchens, shown how to make their own pizza bases, and then chose fresh toppings before having them cooked and finally trying their delicious creations.

'We were delighted to welcome the children to the restaurant,' said Mark Villamor-Sanchez, general manager of Fire & Stone.'The kids have enjoyed it so much that we are now keen to do a rolling programme with the EBP so other schools can visit.'

Other restaurants taking part at Gunwharf Quays' shopping centre were Pizza Express, Yo! Sushi and the Custom House pub.
