Registrar has given other clubs time to pay

Mrs Registrar Christine Derrett, who sat in judgment on Pompey today, is experienced in dealing with winding-up applications involving football clubs.

In November of last year she gave Cardiff City Football Club breathing space as they fought a winding-up petition by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

Cardiff, who Pompey beat 1-0 in the 2008 FA Cup Final, were given 70 days to settle their debts with the taxman.

Today, before the Pompey hearing, she gave Cardiff another 28 days grace, and made a similar order on Southend United, who were also facing a winding-up order.

Last month, she gave another two clubs a chance to resolve their financial dues.

On January 27, she gave Notts County 28 days to meet debts owed to the taxman and other companies, despite objections from creditors pursuing their cash.

The following day, Mrs Registrar Derrett gave Chester City six weeks to pay off debts that threatened their existence.

HM Revenue & Customs wanted to wind-up the cash-strapped club at the High Court. But City were given until March 10 to sort out a Company Voluntary Arrangement aimed at enabling the club to clear debts.
