THE restoration of an historic pier in Old Portsmouth is under way.
Victoria Pier will be reopened to the public once the £25,000 revamp is completed in six weeks’ time.
A spokesman for Portsmouth City Council, which owns the pier, said: ‘The work is costing about £25,000 and involves repairing or replacing handrails and posts and repainting them.
‘It should take around six weeks.’ Victoria Pier dates back more than 500 years.
Steve Hender, 55, who runs The Square Tower, said: ‘There are many people who are passionate about it. It’s first thing people see when they enter Portsmouth.’
