NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their fear after a woman was attacked in Cosham.

Police cordoned off Colwell Road, Wymering, and a section of the King George V playing fields after the assault at around 1pm today.

The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham. Unconfirmed reports said she had been stabbed.

As a manhunt started for her attacker, people in the area spoke of their shock.

One woman who lives in Colwell Road but who wanted to remain anonymous, said: ‘It doesn’t make you feel too good knowing that it’s broad daylight. I’m shocked.’

Maureen Clark, 70, from Freshwater Road, said: ‘I walk my dog down there. I’m quite nervous. It’s horrendous. You just don’t feel safe.’

Steve Ray, 41, from Cosham, said: ‘I was waiting for my little boy and I was stood by the park and the police just pulled up. They asked me to stop and said “can I search you”.

‘The first stabbing was outside my house. It’s diabolical.

‘It’s a bit dangerous for kids to run around if there’s a man running around Cosham with a knife.’

Officers say it is too early to know whether or not the assault is connected to two other stabbing attacks on women in the north of the city.

This afternoon police forensic experts were examining the alleyway between Colwell Road and Northern Road in which the woman was attacked.

Other officers searched drains in the area.
