Rights theme for drama festival
SCHOOLS in Fareham are preparing to perform theatrical pieces about the subject of human rights.
Five schools from the Fareham and Gosport area will perform at the Young People's Drama Festival at the Ashcroft Arts Centre.
The festival, which takes place from Wednesday, July 1, until Friday, July 3, covers subjects such as child soldiers, children's rights and domestic violence.
The schools involved in the festival are Portchester Community School, Neville Lovett School, Brookfield Community School, Cams Hill School and Brune Park School.
Annabel Cook, centre director at the Ashcroft Arts Centre said: 'This is a wonderful way of encouraging young people to see beyond their own world and become interested in politics and the world around them.
'The festival also allows young people the opportunity to work with professional artists and then be treated like one when they arrive at the Ashcroft for the performance week.
'We are delighted to be a part of the festival and hope it will continue and develop over the coming years.'
The funding for the project has come from the schools and the Ashcroft Arts Centre and the set was built by The Guildford School of Acting.
