Robber carrying knife leaves empty-handed

A WOULD-BE robber left with nothing after his victim refused to hand over any money.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted robbery in Gosport on Tuesday.

A 29-year-old man was approached in Magennis Close by another man who was holding a knife down by his side.

He calmly asked for the victim’s wallet and money, but the victim told him to go away.

The suspect then ran off in the direction of Cornwell Close.

It happened between 9.50pm and 9.55pm.

PC David Terrett, from Fareham and Gosport CID, said: ‘I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Magennis Close at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the suspect running from the scene or anyone who recognises the description of the suspect.’

The suspect is described as a white man, who was 5ft 6ins tall and of a skinny build.

He was in his late teens, with dark eyes, clear skin and short, dark, messy hair.

He was wearing a dark-coloured suede jacket with a collar, and dark tracksuit trousers with white stripes down the side and dark trainers.

Anyone with information should call PC Terrett at Fareham and Gosport CID on 101.

Information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111
