Robbers steal cash after threatening betting shop staff

STAFF at a betting shop in Gosport were forced to hand over cash after being threatened by knife-wielding robbers.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the robbery at the Ladbrookes bookmakers in Stoke Road.

Three men entered the shop and one of them threatened staff with a knife.

When the money was handed over, the men ran out of the building in the
direction of St Edward’s
Road.

It happened just after 7pm on Wednesday, but police
have only just released the details.

Detective Constable Katie Wakefield, from Fareham and Gosport CID, appealed for witnesses.

She said: ‘This incident took place in the early evening when there would have been people in the nearby area.

‘This is a serious incident and I would like to speak to anyone who saw three men, matching the descriptions, acting suspiciously in the area.’

The suspects are all described as being white
men.

Two of them were wearing black hoodies, black trousers, black woolly hats and
white scarves covering their faces.

One of the scarves had black flecks or a black pattern on it.

The man wearing this scarf was also carrying a white
bag.

The third suspect was wearing a woolly black hat, a black scarf covering his face and a light blue jacket.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the offenders should call Det Con Wakefield at Fareham police station on 101.

Information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Mini-Com users can call the police on 18001 101.
