Sailors pay a visit to Barbados

Portsmouth-based HMS Manchester has just completed a two-week visit to Bridgetown, Barbados, as part of her disaster relief and counter drugs mission in the Caribbean region.

Commanding Officer, Commander Rex Cox and senior officers visited the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency where they gained a better insight into the organisation.

Routine maintenance and engineering work was also carried out in Bridgetown to ensure the ship is in good shape ahead of the imminent hurricane season.

Some members of the ship's company also took the opportunity to explore the island while off duty.

Cdr Cox said: 'It was a real pleasure to visit Barbados and both my ship's company and I greatly enjoyed engaging with the local community and exploring some of the Island's rich cultural heritage and beautiful beaches whilst establishing professional relationships for the future.'

The ship is due home in December.
