Sailors salute victims of 9/11 terror
CREW members from a Portsmouth minehunter have paid emotional respects to the Twin Towers victims in New York.
The sailors visited the USA during their deployment with a Nato mine countermeasures group.
The 1,000-ton ship arrived in New York with nine others to both celebrate 400 years of Dutch relations with the city – formerly called Nieuw Amsterdam – and pay tribute to those who died during the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
The 45-strong ship's company took part in official ceremonies including a wreath laying ceremony at Ground Zero, as well as hosting local dignitaries from the military and emergency services.
Lieutenant Commander Tim Neild, in charge of Quorn, said: 'It is a great privilege and an honour to bring a Royal Navy warship to New York, especially during such a significant and poignant period like the anniversary of 9/11.
'It is only right that we should stand shoulder to shoulder with our NATO colleagues to remember those who were lost.'
