Sailors show they're skills on land as well as sea

Sailors got their hands dirty as they helped landscape a school.

Ratings from HMS Collingwood popped along to Peel Common Junior School during the half-term to spruce up the grounds.

Working through the wind and rain, the trainees from the Fareham naval base spent the week cutting back trees and bushes, laying wood chippings, as well as revamping outdoor seating and play areas.

Deputy headteacher Paul Eldred said: 'The work they've done has had a huge impact on the school, they were brilliant.

'The children have already noticed it and are really pleased.

'Some of the landscaping work was through some very difficult terrain and they've also made some repairs to our adventure playground.

'It's opened up a much larger area for the children to play in safely and it's great.'
