She's a kind of magic! Queen star names MP Caroline as his hero
QUEEN guitarist Brian May has gone ga ga over Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage - saying she's his hero.
The rock icon turned animal rights campaigner praised the Gosport Tory MP for her stance against hunting with dogs.
He praised her as he chose his Heroes of 2010 for an article in The Guardian.
The guitarist, who performed Queen hits such as Radio Ga Ga and It's a Kind of Magic, wrote: 'My new heroes are Conservatives Against Fox Hunting, led in the Commons by MPs Caroline Dinenage, Dominic Raab, Mike Weatherley and Simon Kirby. These brave MPs are standing by their conviction that hunting with dogs is cruel and inexcusable and must never again be legal in this country. By speaking out they risk their popularity in their party and their promotion prospects. It's a hard place to be.'
Ms Dinenage said: 'It's such an honour for me.
'I've always been a massive Queen fan and it's amazing for someone who is a hero to millions of people across the world to have said that about what I and some other Conservatives are doing.'
She admitted that when she first met Mr May at a League Against Cruel Sports dinner she had to work to keep her emotions under control.
She said: 'I had to be extremely careful. I kept telling myself to remember he's an animal welfare campaigner and graduate in nuclear physics, not a rock star.
'I tried to keep that part of my life under wraps because I didn't want to come across as a sycophantic groupie.'
The News reported in October that Ms Dinenage has promised to vote against any attempt to bring back hunting with dogs.
She said: 'I stand by it. It's very cruel to hunt animals to their death with dogs. I will always vote to keep it banned.'
She added: 'My favourite Queen song is Crazy Little Thing Called Love. I haven't told Brian that, though.'
CAROLINE Dinenage joins some of the world's most famous names and faces on The Guardian's list.
The newspaper asked people in all fields of activity to nominate those who deserve respect or praise.
The series began with Professer Richard Dawkins lauding Christopher Hitchens, and has also seen tribute paid to Cumbrian residents, for their response to the floods which swept through the county early this year, and Burmese political leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Ms Dinenage said: 'It's strange to be a Conservative praised in The Guardian, but this isn't a political matter.'
