A WOMAN who slashed an off-duty shop worker’s arm when he apprehended her for stealing beer from a supermarket has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Cidney Greenshields, 19, of Park Road, Emsworth, was stopped outside Tesco Express, in Emsworth, with Christie Gorman, of no fixed address, on August 25.
An off-duty shop worker spotted the pair drinking on the street and approached the duo with a friend.
After taking the alcohol off them, a fight broke out, in which the court heard 20-year-old Gorman allegedly shouted to Greenshields to ‘get the shank babe’, something they both deny.
A dot hammer was produced by Greenshields, which her defence said she often carried for protection after a bad experience living on the streets.
Greenshields pleaded guilty to one count of theft, two counts of assault and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, when she appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court. Gorman pleaded guilty to one count of theft and two counts of assault.
Greenshields was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment suspended for one year and Gorman was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment.
