Showaddywaddy put on a show of rock and roll

Showaddywaddy proved they've still got it as they put on a rock and roll performance at Gosport Waterfront Festival.

The 70s group ran through their greatest hits as 4,000 people crammed into Walpole Park on Saturday night.

It was so busy, security had to turn people away from the free festival with many having to watch the show from behind a fence.

The crowd lapped up hits such as Hey Rock and Roll, Heartbeat, and Three Steps to Heaven.

And fittingly a bright moon came out over the town as the group played one of their best known songs, Under the Moon of Love.

Showaddywaddy were supported by American R&B singer Geno Washington, who got the crowd in the mood for dancing.

Ska band Orange Street also proved to be a big hit on Saturday night.

Cllr Justin Henshaw, who has helped organised this year's festival, said: 'It has been absolutely fantastic.

'Saturday night we had a packed crowd and it was really rocking.

'Everybody was enjoying themselves.

'Geno Washington said to me Gosport Waterfront Festival is the best one he does.

'Showaddywaddy were great and really got the crowd going.

'Orange Street were brilliant as well and the crowd seemed to love them.

'We probably had about 4,000 in there on Saturday night, the security guys had to stop people coming in.

'It was one in one out after 8pm.

'It is a fantastic event for the people of Gosport everybody loved it and people are already looking forward to next year.

'It has really gone well and I'm just so pleased.

'We are all over the moon about it and the music has been fantastic.'

The festival kicked off on Friday night with performances by The Lewis Creavan Band, local lads Bear Cavalry and swinging 60s headliners The New Amen Corner.

It closed last night with Motown tribute act Signed Sealed & Delivered, featuring ex-Drifter Patrick Alan.
