PEOPLE out enjoying the snow left a nasty mess at a beauty spot.
Countryside rangers were faced with a massive clear-up operation at Catherington Down, Horndean, after thousands took to the hill on improvised sledges.
But many simply left them there for someone else to clear up once they had had their fun.
Doors, car bonnets, beer cans, smashed plastic sledges and other debris was strewn around the protected site.
John Telford, from Horndean Parish Council, said: ‘Holes have been dug to create snowboard and sledge jumps.
‘This has done irreparable damage to the medieval strip lytchett field system, a series of steps across the down which was used to help planting and grazing.’
In future the hill may be closed off if snow is forecast in future.
