PEOPLE whose homes were flooded in bad weather say they fear it will happen again if the water company does not step in.
Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt says she has been contacted by neighbours in Station Road, Drayton, which has seen flash flooding throughout this winter.
Many of them suffered flooding on three occasions in December and January.
Now they want Southern Water to carry out a proper investigation and find out what can be done to prevent the floods happening again.
Ms Mordaunt said: ‘I have written to the chief executive of Southern Water to express residents’ concerns and hope to meet with them shortly to discuss these in more detail.
‘Residents have been left frustrated due to the lack of adequate communication from Southern Water on the matter and are naturally anxious about the future.
‘These concerns really do need to be addressed.
‘I appreciate this has been a stressful time for the residents of Station Road and I am keen to make a strong case to Southern Water.
‘It really helps to have residents’ views on the matter.’
Heavy rainfall and burst drain covers led to water overflowing in Station Road before Christmas, with water seeping into people’s homes and garages.
Southern Water said at the time it was a product of heavy rain and a high tide.
They dispatched engineers and tankers to help clear the water away.
A spokeswoman for Southern Water said the company would keep residents updated.
She said: ‘We know how distressing these incidents have been for residents and a full investigation is continuing.
‘As part of the initial clean-up and subsequent investigations, engineers and customer service staff have been to the area and met affected residents.
‘However, if they feel we haven’t communicated with them well enough, then we must look at how we can do better.’
The spokeswoman added the firm’s chief executive had met Ms Mordaunt yesterday.
