Southsea bomb scare false alarm
A residential street in Southsea was shut off by police on Saturday after a suspect package was discovered.
It could have been a repeat of the dramatic events earlier this month which saw part of Southsea evacuated after a briefcase containing two old hand grenades was found.
But though residents told The News they believed an old shell had been found in an abandoned property in Westfield Road, a Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team soon declared the area safe.
They were called to the house at around 3pm, and by 3.20pm police had lifted the road cordon. No-one was evacuated at any point.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said: 'It was nothing for residents in the wider area to be concerned about.'
