Southsea seafront museum ends free parking

Free parking at a city museum will end, due to visitors to the seafront using its car park but not visiting the attraction.

The Royal Marines Museum, on Eastney Street, Southsea, approached Portsmouth City Council to charge, because of difficulties since the reduction of seafront parking.

Charges, of 2 for up to three hours, or 5 for a full day, will operate seven days a week, from 9am to 5.30pm.

The council will install machines and signs, costing 3,498, and the scheme is hoped to make a surplus of 2,156 in its first year, then 3,631 a year.
