Special song eases widower's loss
Songwriters are helping a pensioner come to terms with the death of his wife.
When Ernest Childs' wife, Vera, died, he wanted something to remember her by.
After reading about a pair of award-winning songwriters in The News, he decided music was the thing.
So armed with a video of her 80th birthday party and a head full of memories, he asked Richard Wotton and Sandy Noad to compose a song.
He told the pair the story of their 47-year marriage and after two weeks of careful composing, they came up with a song, which you can listen to here, called A New Angel.
When Mr Childs, of Swaythling Road, Havant, heard the song, it reminded him of his 88-year-old wife so much that he burst into tears.
'It's quite a moving song because it tells of our life together,' he said.
'We loved each other so much and really were dedicated to each other.
'I just feel so lost with out her, I've been feeling very sad, but the song makes it a bit easier.
'Everyone who's heard it, loves it and I'm sure my wife would have loved it.
'I was quite moved when I first heard it and I cried. I've spent a lot of time crying ever since.'
Mr Wotton, 65, and Mrs Noad, 49, who go to the Music Room, in Carisbrooke Road, were asked to write a song after reaching the top five in a national song-writing competition.
The pair beat thousands to get to the final earlier this year, and put in no less dedication when it came to writing the song about Vera.
'Ernest showed us a video of Vera's 80th birthday, so we got to know her, he gave us notes about their life together as well, so we studied them,' said Mr Wotton.
'From all that we wrote the song.'
