Store aids Hampshire cause

Customers and staff at a Portsmouth supermarket have voted to give their time to a local charity.

Volunteers from Sainsbury's in Farlington will raise funds for Down's Syndrome Education International, based at the Sarah Duffen Centre in Belmont Street, Southsea.

The charity was set up as Portsmouth Down's Syndrome Trust in July 1987 to help people with the condition learn to read.

Sainsbury's staff will organise activities to go towards new equipment, learning facilities and other centre supplies.

Karen Waters, who works in Farlington, said: 'Downsed International stood out as a local charity which could really benefit through volunteering and fundraising.'

The store will launch the partnership on Sunday with store collections which customers will be asked to support.

Farlington store manager Phil Bridgwater said: 'We are really pleased and excited to support Downsed International.

'I can definitely see our store building a strong relationship with the charity.'
