Storrie steps down as chief executive
POMPEY chief executive Peter Storrie has stepped down from his role, the club has announced.
Storrie had already announced he was going to quit once a new buyer was found for the club.
But he has decided to quit now. However he will remain as a paid consultant while Pompey try to find a new buyer.
Storrie had become a target for abuse from some sections of the Portsmouth supporters in recent months.
He said: 'It is best that I walk away.
'Despite working non-stop to try to keep this club alive for the last 14 months, they need someone to blame, and there is nobody left to blame but me.'
A statement from the club's administrators said: 'Andrew Andronikou has announced that Peter Storrie, the chief executive of Portsmouth Football Club, has, after talks with his family and friends, decided it is in the best interests of the club for him to leave his full-time employment.
'The administrators would like to thank Mr Storrie for his undivided assistance and support over the past few weeks.
'Mr Storrie has pledged to continue to assist the club and the administrators on a range of matters, including the sale of the club, the FA Cup semi-final arrangements and other projects and will be remunerated accordingly.
Fans have welcomed the news.
Nigel Tresidder, chairman of Portsmouth FC central branch supporters' club, said: 'There's no job for a chief exec to do at Pompey at the moment. The club will definitely save a lot of money by him stepping down and I think that's very important.
'It's great for the club. They got rid of some below him but I always thought they should have started at the top.
'What some of those who were made redundant were on was pennies compared to Peter Storrie.'
Terry Goodall, of Portsmouth Independent Supporters' Association, said Storrie had to leave.
He said: 'His position was untenable however you look at it. He has recently kept using the line that Pompey's not his club and he wasn't it's owner, but throughout the last couple of years he's kept saying that the owners left him to get on with things.
'The responsibility for Pompey's situation lies mainly with the owners, but in their absence the buck stops with him.
'I think what really upset fans across the city and beyond was that he didn't have the decency to step down when he could have.'
