Students hoping to stay ahead of the rest
TWO students from Highbury College, Portsmouth, will be travelling to London on Monday for the final of the a hairdressing competition.
Gina Kennedy, 25 and Hannah Eggleton, 19, will travel with 30 supporters after winning places in the Schwarzkopf HABB Graduate 2009 competition at a judging day held at the college.
Southern Hairdresser of the year Rae Palmer, who has a salon in Southsea and heads up the competition, went to Highbury to teach the latest trends to the hairdressing students.
A further judging day took place with students presenting a model to Rae and Professional Hairdresser magazine editor Nicola Shannon.
Last year only two colleges competed for the title, but this year there are finalists from Basingstoke, Highbury, Eastleigh and Bournemouth colleges.
Rae said: 'I'm excited about the competition's growth this year.
'I think it's so important to help the students through partnering with the colleges and developing new talent that is coming into the industry.
'It's so great to be working with colleges that are so passionate about training.'
The 17 finalists will start the final at 2pm, where they'll prepare their models and be evaluated by the judges.
The winner's prize package includes a trophy, professional photoshoot, attendance at the Hair and Beauty Benevolent Ball and a place on the HABB scholarship training programme.
