Supervisor pitches in to boost Gosport market
A new supervisor has been appointed as part of Gosport council's drive to transform the High Street market.
Nic Bullough, who has previously worked all over the UK on markets, county shows, craft shows, and music festivals, has been drafted into the position.
The news comes after Gosport council took over the running of the Tuesday and Saturday markets in the High Street and the number of stalls rocketed.
The council took over from Hughmark International, which had previously operated the market.
Previously there were between eight and 15 stalls each Tuesday on average. This has now leapt to 27, with 50 stalls on Saturdays.
Mr Bullough said: 'Gosport has a history of delivering excellent markets, and with the opportunity that the loss of the previous contractor brought I was excited to bring my extensive skills and knowledge to try and recapture some of that market magic that the older residents in Gosport will remember.'
The leader of Gosport council, Councillor Mark Hook, said he hoped with the new appointment the market would continue to improve, and revealed that themed market days were in the pipeline.
'We are looking to programme some themed markets to provide that little bit of extra interest and to cater for all the needs of Gosport residents,' he said.
'I want to re-establish the Gosport markets as one of the premier markets on the south coast.'
He added: 'We're very excited about this and people have told us they regularly check the council's website to see what plans are being made.'
