Swap card for green carrier bag in initiative
A Fareham firm is inviting other companies to swap their business cards in exchange for a special reusable Christmas carrier bag.
The Display Centre in The Avenue, Fareham, is working with Go Green Bags, to help local retailers reduce their use of plastic carrier bags and save money.
The carrier bags hold more than three times as much as a typical supermarket carrier and should last for at least two years.
The centre sells professional display products such as hangers, garment rails and mannequins for other stores to use.
Available in a range of colours, the fully recyclable and reusable bags are branded with powerful environmentally-friendly messages such as 'Think Global, Shop Local'.
John Freeth, managing director at Go Green, said: 'The Display Centre is well known to retailers throughout the UK, and we are delighted to be working with them on this campaign to reduce the use of plastic checkout bags.
'By choosing a strong, good looking, yet great value alternative, reducing the use of plastic bags is easier than you think.'
In the new year, The Display Centre will be approaching local schools and colleges to extend the initiative.
Chris Jones, from The Display Centre, said: 'Young people are concerned about protecting their environment, so we're planning to invite them to design their own bags and sell them to friends and relatives to raise funds for their school.'
