Team hope to finish epic bicycle ride on Sunday
A team of cyclists are set to complete their cycle ride from Glasgow to Hampshire in aid of victims of asbestos.
The 1,200-mile journey started on June 20 and is due to finish in Southampton on July 5.
Specialist asbestos solicitors Katrina London and Paul Glanville plus campaigner Jason Addy have taken part in the ride in a bid to raise awareness of the plight of asbestos-related cancer sufferers and to support the call for a national research centre.
The trio have been cycling through some of the regions of the country whose communities have been most blighted by the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma.
Diane Salisbury, co-founder of Hampshire Asbestos Support, said: 'We are delighted to greet the campaigners and will be giving them the welcome they deserve for such a phenomenal achievement.
'The Southampton and Portsmouth area has been particularly badly affected because of industries such as shipbuilding, engineering and the railway works.
'We are seeing increasing incidences of asbestos-related conditions including mesothelioma – a cancer of the lining of the lung, the least researched one of the top 20 cancers in the UK.
'We have asked the government for funding and received positive feedback.
'However, no allocation has yet been made and we hope this initiative will tip the balance when government ministers consider the issue.'
