EASTERN Road has been re-opened following a serious accident involving a motorbike and a bicycle which left two people fighting for life.

The air ambulance was called to the incident involving a blue Yamaha motorbike and a blue bicycle at the junction of Eastern Road and Tangier Road, at 3.05pm.

Sgt Wayne Voller from the Fratton Roads Policing Unit said: ‘It was a serious crash. A 45-year-old male motorcylist was travelling south on Eastern Road and collided with a 15-year-old pedal cyclist who was at the crossing.

‘Both have got serious injuries that at this stage are considered as life-threatening. They are both from Southsea.’

Both of the injured have been taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.

Ella McCann, 17, of Milton, was at a nearby pier on Langstone Harbour with some friends when she heard the accident.

She described the scene as ‘horrible’.

Ella said: ‘We heard a noise, at first we thought it was a car on the stones.

‘Then we came up and saw the people on the floor.

‘It was really upsetting. One man’s face was all covered in blood.’

The road was closed to traffic following the accident so that police could investigate.

Sgt Voller appealed for any witnesses to call him at the Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101.
