Teenager charged with GBH after assault outside pub in North End

A TEENAGER has been charged by police after an assault outside a pub.

A 48-year-old man was assaulted outside the Clarence Garden pub in London Road, North End, on Saturday.

Detectives have now charged Christopher Stanhope, from Strode Road in Stamshaw, with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was bailed to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on February 22.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have seen the attack, which happened at around 11.20pm, to come forward and help with the investigation.

Detective Constable Pete Bambury, from Fratton CID, said: ‘This assault happened in a busy part of London Road and I am aware that a number of vehicles drove past during the incident, some even had to stop due to people in the road.

‘Other members of the public also stopped to help the victim.

‘I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.’

Anyone with information should call Det Con Bambury at Fratton CID on 101.

Information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

A 17-year-old boy from Portsmouth was also arrested in connection with the incident but was released with no further action to be taken.
