A TEENAGER has died in a crash between a lorry and a car on the A32.

The collision happened at around 3am between a black Vauxhall Corsa travelling north and a white Scania HGV travelling in the opposite direction on the A32 Wickham Road between Fareham and Knowle Village.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man from the Soberton area, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The lorry was being driven by a 52-year-old man, from Southampton, who sustained chest injuries and was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

Both vehicles involved were extensively damaged in the collision.

The crash has caused further issues this morning, as motorists try to find alternative routes around the affected area.

The first of these was on the M27 eastbound between junction 8 and 9, two lanes were closed, but have since been reopened and traffic is flowing.

The second crash was in Boarhunt Road, near Nine Elms Lane in Boarhunt, where a car and a lorry have collided near to the Manor Farm. The road was blocked in both directions but has since been reopened.

Commenting on the fatal crash, the ambulance spokesman said: ‘We were called at 3.03am to reports of a road traffic accident involving a lorry and a car on the A32 between Wickham and Fareham.

‘We sent two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer, and the hazardous area response team.’

The road is closed in both directions between the M27 Junction 10 at Wickham and the A334 Fareham Road.

The exit at Junction 10 westbound is also closed, but eastbound traffic can join the M27 at Junction 10.

There is a diversion in operation via M27 Junction 9 A3051 through Burridge and Shedfield and police are directing traffic.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘Motorists are asked to find alternative routes.’

The Environment Agency was also called to the scene to assess the situation, as the lorry was carrying pallets of milk, some of which had leaked out when it crashed.

Kim Newton, duty site controller, said: ‘We were informed that the truck was carrying milk which can be hazardous if it gets into the water course.

‘It can be toxic to creatures in the water and with the road running slightly downhill, we had to assess the situation.

‘Also the tank had ruptured a little bit so we had to keep an eye on the fuel.’

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the crash.

Anyone with information should call Hampshire Police on 101, quoting Op. ARNEB.
