Teenagers call for action on crossing

YOUNG people have started a petition in a bid to get a safer road crossing at Langstone.

Members of Havant Borough Youth Council are campaigning for a toucan crossing where the Hayling Billy Trail crosses Langstone Road.

Youth council member Lucy Smith, 17, raised the issue after spending some time shadowing Councillor Brendan Gibb-Gray, who represents Emsworth and is a keen cyclist.

Kieren Parkes, 15, a member of the youth council, spent an hour taking photos at the crossing.

He said: ‘There was a lot of traffic in both directions. At one point, I had to wait five minutes to get across the road.

‘In that time, 120 cars drove past without stopping to let me cross.’

‘It’s clear to me that there needs to be a crossing there to make the vehicles stop and keep the people who use the Billy Trail safe.’
