TESCO officials have stressed their travelators are safe.
It comes in the wake of an incident at the supermarket giant’s Havant store when Eileen Walton, from Hayling, became trapped under a trolley at the bottom of the moving staircase.
A statement said: ‘The travelators in our stores are installed to meet European standards, and they are serviced regularly, including by an independent engineer. Our service reports are shared with the local health and safety inspectors, and we have clear signs around the travelators which explain to customers how to use them safely.’
