The News has been campaigning for years

THE News has been behind the Arctic Convoy veterans since Commander Eddie Grenfell was elected leader of the campaign for recognition in 1997.

But it was in January 2004 that things stepped up a gear and we launched the Last Chance for Justice campaign.

Highlights included a 45,000-signature petition, the march of 500 protesters up Whitehall and getting the backing of 429 MPs from all parties in parliament.

In 2006 this newspaper was named campaigning newspaper of the year by The Newspaper Society for its efforts.
