They're all looking to keep eye on night sky

CLANFIELD Observatory has come up with a host of events to coincide with the first International Year of Astronomy.

This year, 2009, is the 400th anniversary of the first astronomical use of a telescope by Galileo to study the night sky.

The Spring Moon Watch from March 28 to April 5 is the best time of year to observe the very young waxing crescent moon and then watch its day-by-day changing phase pass through the first quarter.

In addition, Saturn with its spectacular ring system is ideally placed for observation for the whole of Moon Watch 2009, weather permitting.

Hampshire Astronomical Group will run evening events throughout the nine-day period, using the same format and cost as on regular open evenings.

The events will be held at the Clanfield Observatory, one of the largest and best equipped amateur observatories in England.

To find out more about the various events go to hantsas tro.org.uk. Tickets are 7.50 for adults and 5 for children under 12.

To book for any of these events e-mail jack.climpson @hantsastro.org.uk or call 07986 121613.
