Thinking of Jasmine every step of the way
THE godmother of Jasmine Andrew led a sponsored walk to raise cash for a bone marrow charity.
And with every step they took, the plight of the four-month-old spurred the walkers on.
She has a rare and potentially life-threatening immune system de?ciency which means she needs a bone marrow donor as soon as possible.
The sponsored walk was organised by her Godmother Steph Longhurst, who wanted to raise awareness and cash for Anthony Nolan.
She and 15 others walked through heavy rain from Eastney swimming pool to Old Portsmouth for two hours.
The 22-year-old of Strode Road, Stamshaw, said: 'It was good.
'We were stopping people as we were going along and telling them about the cause. People had read about Jasmine in the paper. The rain helped - it made people feel sorry for us!'
Before they set off the group of friends were greeted by Jasmine's grandad Mark Curtis and cousin Jack Curtis, six, to wish them well. The walkers wore pyjamas and carried Anthony Nolan balloons to make sure they stood out and let everyone knew why they were there.
'We wanted to make it fun and to stand out,' said Steph, who is best friends with Jasmine's mum Kerrie Curtis, 24.
The cash is still being counted from sponsorship, but along with bucket collections the group have already raised over 500.
With the support of The News, charity Anthony Nolan has set up a donor session on September 7 at the Guildhall.
Steph urged people to go along.
She added: 'I wanted to raise awareness of Jasmine, and make people aware that there are children out there that need help and bone marrow. Donors could save a life.'
