Three-wheeled supercar pulls into town for museum date
The only supercar ever to have been built in Fareham has had a homecoming.
The Keeble K3 Coupe, believed to be the only car by a recognised vehicle manufacturer to be built in the borough, appeared at Westbury Manor Museum to celebrate National Science and Engineering Week.
The 120mph three-wheeled concept car was built in The Tanneries, Titchfield, by Jim Keeble during the late 1990s.
But as his health deteriorated his friends had to help complete the car, which was finished shortly before his death from a brain tumour in 2002.
It was the first time Ian Tinsey, who installed most of the original electronics for the car, had seen the vehicle for seven years.
Mr Tinsey, 49, said: 'It was good to see it again. It brought back a lot of good memories, especially about Jim – he was a real character.
'Jim had a little drive up the road in it – just about 30 yards – but that's as far as it ever went. It was a project car and it was never really finished, but it would be lovely to get it out on the road properly one day.'
It was Jim's wish that the car be passed to Hampshire County Council Museums Service on his death, and is usually based at Milestones Museum in Basingstoke.
